About the War

Here's some factoids about our little hobby. Feel free to submit questions via the forums or email if you'd like to see something added here or just have catlike curiosity for all things particularly insane.

Q: Where does the War take place?
A: Well, the battle has always taken place in a secluded area in Northwest Arkansas. The field is on a hill, so first the teams have to decide who will be on the uphill side and who will be on the downhill side, so that bases/forts may be constructed accordingly. For spectators there is an observation deck nearby (but not too near) that allows for those who are more mentally stable, or "yellow bellied" to relax, have some drinks, and enjoy the show.

Q: How long does it last?
A: The battle itself lasts about four hours, but generally participants put in days and days worth of building, testing, and scheming time.

Q: How do you fund the War?
A: With our own money, for the most part. We save up throughout the year, then buy most of our fireworks at a single location, all in a single trip. Orders are put in, the money is pooled, and everyone comes home with plenty of stuff to blow up. All other materials, such as are used to build weapons and armor, are bought by individuals. That includes this website. Web-hosting isn't free, so if you like this site and would like to help keep it on the web, small donations would be greatly appreciated. We accept Paypal.

Q: Who are the participants?
A: It's a little different every year, as once someone has participated they almost invariably show up for the next year's war. There are a few main players, however--the ones who each July 4th strive above and beyond the rest to achieve immortality through legend... you could probably pick them out of this year's war just by viewing the photo gallery. (Hint: Look for seige weapons, fortresses, and blinding explosions.).

Q: Do you have a guestbook I can sign?
A: We sure do. Just click here to be taken straight to it.
